Dike Profile Generator

Under the Dutch Water Act water managers are required to assess the flood probability of the primary flood defences every 12 years. The Dike Profile Generator supports this task and saves water managers time.

The DPG contains dike profiles for every 100 meters of all primary flood defences. Profiles can be adapted based on local knowledge, then downloaded and imported directly into RingToets or Hydra-NL.

TRL7. Integrated pilot system demonstrated

ProSystem prototype demonstration in operational environment. Prototype near or at planned operational system. Represents a major step up from TRL 6 by requiring demonstration of an actual system prototype in an operational environment. The Dike Profile Generator is being used already in projects performed by HKV for water management institutions. These projects can be regarded as relevant operational environments.

The main components of the system have been tested separately, and an initial integration exercise has been conducted.

The Dike Profiel Generator allows water managers to edit the geometry of the profiles if needed, and download profiles for use in RingToets and Hydra-NL.

Limitations/conditions under which this innovation does not work or is less effective

The instrument was developed for thje Dutch policy context, but the instrument may have added value in any countru where actual condition of flood defences is evaluated against protection standards.
